AREGBESOLA: The Lord of Osun
One clear thing anyone can't take away from me is the fact that I am one his numerous supporters.
Right from the first day, he stepped on the soil of Osun for his campaign till this present moment.
The difference is the level of admiration then and now.You need to see how the people hail him to know why he is the Lord of Osun. But then, people did same to Jonathan and even Oyin ni o.
Aregbe, as fondly called is a progressive no doubt. He came with such enthusiasm the Osun people were yearning for, the hopes of many years dashed by the 'Oyin ni o' years. Just to let you know briefly that Oyinlola was not all that bad, but more of his lieutenants worsened his case.
Aregbe came in with an idea of turning Osun to Lagos overnight, but forgotten that Osun is just a 'bloody civil service state', he forgot that Osun depends so much on Federal allocations, and he forgot that Lagos, as it is today, was the result of years strategic planning.
If you have ever seen Baba Kabiru dancing to Saheed Osupa's song (Saheed is one of those musicians I love too, his philosophical lyrics are second to none), then you will understand his style of leadership. Seriously speaking, he meant well but made series of mistakes along the way, which unfortunately he has refused to learn from, and so resulted in his undoing.
Aregbe's first mistake was to come to Osun with people whom he thinks are cerebrally (anything like that?) better than the people of Osun whom he met on Ground, who knows where it pinches most.He did not only put them aside, he stopped listening to them, except few sycophants whom he wasn't other listening to utilize giving them what he wants them to do.
Aregbe became the Generalissimo, which of course helped in some instances though, like the quality road constructions all over. But the Osupa lover killed another bird when he cowed the civil societies through one of his aides Shittu. The reason, no civil society in Osun today has a voice.Aregbe brought in tax regime to improve the state’s revenues great idea but failed woefully to make regular 100% payments to same people he expects to pay 100% taxes.
The most impressive and at the same time most barbaric footprint of Aregbe could be seen in one sector-education. I was so impressed at his first coming that I had to attend the education summit he organized. But he failed woefully in the same sector. Firstly, he brought In e-learning tablet called Opon Imo -a very good technology for Improved learning, but he did that without strategic planning. Billions of Osun tax payers' money got hooked in that. Today, can anyone tell us the status of the e-slate? #O-gone.
Secondly, he did one of the most ambitious infrastructural intervention in the education sector.A visit to Osun would confirm this. But he made two mistakes here-one was the deletion of ancient names of some of that schools-I. e Fakunle and Girls school. Nothing wrong in reconstruction and realignment of school levels, but a lot wrong with deletion of such names which in most aspects were used to honor few people.I supported the reconstruction but not the deletion of names. For example, Fakunle has been destroyed, name deleted, but the school remained in rubbles. I hope Osun people will resist any attempt in the future to build anything less of a befitting school on 'Fakunle Comprehensive High school '. Anything different is a slap in Osun people and young people especially who are the greatest beneficiaries of education.
Secondly, in the education sector, he built a modern structure for basic and senior secondary education but woefully failed to ensure the regular welfare of the human capacities needed to make the structures functional. No teacher in Osun public schools today can say this is the best years of his or her teaching career. And when such happens, then there is a serious problem and challenges anonymous with the future of that State. Baba Kabiru provides 'world class' school infrastructures just like Akpabio 'work done class hospital
(but he preferred to be flown abroad for treatment), but he failed to provide world class teacher training and supports that ll ensure Osun remains ahead of other states academically. Yes, he is doing well on school feeding, brilliantly too.But a school feeding programme without quality teaching and learning is no more school but a 'feeding centre'. A peep into Osun State performance in WAEC and NECO in the past six years could also tell us something.
And last year on Education, a visit to the Colleges of education, the Polytechnics and College of technology and the state universities (LAUTECH & UNIOSUN) would give a better image of the level of decadence in the sector, and how so much Rafiu AREGBESOLA cares about the future of Osun State.
In my summary's submission about my man-AREGBE, I will say he has tried his best, he made mistakes and fundamental errors which no government in Osun should be allowed to make. But I will give him 49% based on my observations, interactions and interventions seen so far vis-a-vis what Osun should have been by now.A globally thinking but locally acting AREGBESOLA would have done better and earned higher marks. My verdict-Aregbesola should just be left alone to leave and never come back to the political spheres of Osun. Osun deservedly needs a man or woman with deeper strategic vision.Until and unless this is done, Osun ll keep groaning under heavy yokes. Aregbe tried, but he failed the PEOPLE.OSUN CAN DO BETTER.
IF I WERE OSUN PEOPLE, I LL RATHER SAY O-DABO TO BABA KABIRU.
